The Christ of the Mines Shrine
Overlooking Silverton from atop Anvil
Mountain is the Christ of the Mines Shrine. The marble for the shrine was quarried in Carrara, Italy, as was the marble for Michelangelo’s
David. The shrine was erected in the summer of 1959, as a tribute to all those individuals who had worked in the mines around
Silverton. To this day, it continues to serve as a reminder of the town’s mining heritage and the brave men and women who settled
here. The shrine can easily be seen from most areas of town. It is accessible by foot going up 10th Street or by automobile
on the Scenic Drive or “Shrine Road.” Click on the categories below to see our various shopping establishments.
